The Way to Joy and Happiness

Have you ever felt like you were lost, confused, angry, scared – in other words, down in the dumps – either a little or a lot? We all come to times in our lives when we feel not as grateful or happy as we would like. We try to pray or meditate but even that doesn’t seem to work. What can we do?

I believe the one sure way to get out of ourselves and to feel better is to be of service to someone else. I have found in my own life, that being of service to another person is the most sure-fire way to get out of self.

Service brings us a joy that is hard to find anywhere else. Why? In an article in US News, it says, “People who volunteer tend to have higher self-esteem, psychological well-being, and happiness…it also improves their health and even their longevity.”

These are wonderful benefits, and, also, for me – when I get out of myself and reach out to another person, I am healed because the warmth I feel in my heart radiates throughout every cell of my being.
