Ask the Minister:  An Ongoing Conversation

There were so many good questions from Sunday’s Ask the Minister that I want to address them over the next few months!  Today’s question is: “How can we help when we see war and death in the world?”

It is true that as human beings we can inflict a lot of pain on each other.  Just watch the news and we see not only mass destruction through war, but families and neighbors fighting each other.  And yet, Jesus taught that the kingdom of heaven is right here, right now.  HUH?!  Where?

Heaven is a state of consciousness.  Heaven is realized when we move from our limited thinking to an expanded awareness of God’s goodness within us and all around us.  Every thought that we hold in mind makes an impact on the greater whole.  If we are holding thoughts of anger, fear, resentment, or retaliation, we are contributing to war and death in the world.  When we hold thoughts of lovingkindness, we can shift the energy that is binding ourselves and others to the negative.  That is what praying for another is all about.  Jesus told us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

Simply put: “Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.”  This is Unity’s third principle in simple form.  What are we thinking and what is the energy that we are putting into the world.  We make a difference.  It’s our choice.

The prayer practice of Lovingkindness is a great way to practice making a difference both within our own consciousness and the consciousness of others.
