Peace Be With You

This is Peace week during Advent.  How much peace are you experiencing?

For many people, this time of year is anything but peaceful.  It seems there is more to do than there is time to do it.  People are rushing around shopping for that perfect gift or buying things for parties, gatherings, and holiday meals.

But the Christmas story is about peace.  Why?  Because Jesus has been called the Prince of Peace. We can understand why when we read John 14:27 which says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.  Not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

What Jesus is saying is that the world can only give us a certain kind of peace.  It can give us a serene environment such as a quiet forest to rest in, or a beautiful, soft, sandy beach to walk on, or a high mountaintop on which we can see as far as the eye will allow.

But no matter how far we journey to find a peaceful place, the true journey to peace is made in our consciousness.  Wherever we go, there we are.  If we are filled with fear and worry, even if we escape to a peaceful place, that fear and worry will be there with us.

If on the other hand, we have inner peace we will feel the inner quiet of true peace no matter what is going on around us.  Take time this week to spend some quiet time every day breathing deeply and experiencing the peace within.  It is well worth the time.

Quote of the Week

“When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.”
