Patience, a Virtue?

Patience, a wonderful quality to have but the path to it is usually not easy and is never a quality I pray for.

For me, the past few months have been a constant lesson in patience and continue to be so.  There is the lesson of being patient with a physical body that limits me beyond anything I have previously experienced. It is frustrating to not even be able to do the simple things I have always taken for granted. I have learned to have enormous respect for people who have learned how to not only deal with permanent physical challenges but overcome them as well.

Then there is the patience of going through difficult emotional times that seem like they will never end but in time seem to clear up.  Moving is one of those things.  Psychologists say that moving is one of the most stressful things someone can go through.  Besides the fact that it is a change, it is also about giving up order for chaos and then creating order again from the chaos.

Patience is really about trust.  Trust in a Power Greater than Oneself.  It is about knowing the Universe is perfect Divine Order therefore, no matter how things may seem, there can be no chaos in that Divine Order.  We have to just trust during those times of frustration, impatience, and discouragement that things will be better when we place our faith in the Divine Order.

Is it easy?  No!  But the only way through those times is to take it one step at a time, one breath at a time, one box at a time, one room at a time, and one challenge at a time.

One way to help do that is to not judge where we are at by what it is not, but to see how far we have come.

Quote of the Week

“Have patience.  All things are difficult before they become easy.”
