Like Riding A Bike

Recently I thought about this journey of life and where it has taken me.  It has been a time of major changes in many ways.  One thing is for sure, it has been an exercise in testing my faith.

I told someone recently that when my life is turned upside down, I find myself reconnecting to my Higher Power more often.

When my life is going well, I tend to coast regarding my faith.  This is similar to learning to ride a bike.  When we first learn to ride, we have our father or someone hold on until we feel balanced, and then, as soon as we feel we have it, we take off.

We often don’t even give much thought to the help we got to get started.  Off we go, riding our bike, going here and there, and not feeling like we need any more help or any more push.

So, too, it is in life.  When things are difficult we seek the help of a Power Greater Than Ourselves to push us to where we want to go.  When we get there we believe we have it made and so off we go, on our own, sometimes never remembering that how we got there in the first place, was with the help from Spirit.

Going through challenges in life brings us closer to the God of our understanding because it reminds us that we cannot do “it” alone.

Here is what I know to be true for me – this journey brings me experiences unimagined and challenges and gifts unexpected – and the realization that I cannot do it alone.

During these times, I have to strengthen my connection to God and for that, I am truly grateful.

Quote of the Week

“Things can fall apart, or threaten to, for many reasons, and then there’s got to be a leap of faith. Ultimately, when you’re at the edge, you have to go forward or backward; if you go forward, you have to jump together.”
