Light in the midst of the storm

There is a saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell It your plans.”

No matter how much we may plan, organize, and prepare for something, often the Universe has other ideas in store for us.  When that happens – complaining, screaming, or fighting – it does not change things.

When that happens the only thing to do is to accept and surrender.  But often instead, we try to fight against what is, which is in reality the worse thing we can do.  Instead, the best thing to do is accept it, release our attachment to how we thought things should be, and then move forward – even if it is one tiny step in front of the other.

That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a time that we might think – why me?  Or that the Universe is “out to get us”.  The only thing that can change those negative thoughts, is for us to remember that no matter how things look, God is Good, and is on our side.

One of my favorite mantras is, “God’s got my back.” Another favorite is ‘God’s Will will not take me, where God’s Grace will not keep me.”

I suggest having something – a mantra, a prayer, a song.  If you don’t have one, get one!  Because if you live long enough, the time will come, that it will come in handy. It can be the factor that will determine how you walk through the storms of life that blow your way.
