From Rev. Arlene

Most of us have heard the expression, “An apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree”.  This can be a positive statement but it can also be a negative one, depending on our history.

However, unlike an apple, we have a choice.  We can remain stuck where we are because of our families, our education, our backgrounds, etc. or we can decide to move forward into a new way of thinking, a new attitude, new actions, and a new life.

The question we might ask ourselves on a regular basis is, “Am I stuck to my past?”  If the answer is yes, and we are not happy with the result, then we can move forward by thinking new thoughts and taking positive affirming steps in a new direction.

Like the poet William Ernest Henley said, “We are the master of our fate, the captain of our soul.”

Let us move from the shadow of victimhood into the realm of mastery.

Quote of the Week

“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”    William Shakespeare
