Is there someone you will not or can not forgive? Maybe it is someone from the past such as a parent, maybe an ex spouse, or maybe it is yourself. We often think that by forgiving someone, they win and we lose.
The reality is that when we hold onto anger, resentment or grudges, the only one who loses is ourselves. Not forgiving is a waste of energy, time, and brain power not to mention a detriment to our spirit.
I have met people who have suffered terrible things such as losing their child or been abused by their parents and yet they still were able to forgive. All these people say the same thing, that they were the ones who suffered when they did not forgive and they were the ones who benefited when they did forgive.
In some cases, holding onto something can cause not only emotional and mental issues but physical as well. We hold onto negative feelings to such an extent that we make ourselves physically ill.
Forgiveness is the key to our freedom. Reading about it, talking about it, thinking about it, and knowing about it doesn’t do it. Only by doing it do we benefit from it.
Simply say, “I forgive myself”. Even if you don’t mean it, go ahead and do it anyway. Say, “I forgive him/her”. Even if you don’t mean it, go ahead and do it anyway. Do it for two weeks and you will find that you will come to mean it and you will be free.
