Most people would not leave their home in the morning without brushing their teeth, combing their hair, and getting dressed. We understand the importance of being clothed and ready for the day on the outside, yet we face the day without being ready on the inside. We are conditioned to believing that the worldly stuff is so important and as a result forget that it is our condition within that really determines how well we will manage in life. When we look good outside, but do not feel good inside, we get “sucker-punched” when challenges appear during the day.
However, if we take time in the morning to prepare ourselves mentally, emotionally and spiritually, we can handle with grace and ease whatever life throws at us. One of the best ways to prepare ourselves is with meditation.
Meditation does not necessarily mean sitting in a lotus position and having an outer body experience, although, for some people that is the purpose of meditation. Meditation can also be spending some time – whether it is 5 or 20 minutes – sitting quietly, focusing on our breath or a word or mantra, so that we are calm and settled when we leave the house.
If you already meditate, great! However, if you do not, try it for a week and see if it does not make a difference in your attitude, your disposition, and your outlook upon life! It is something that will bring such a positive change it will be worth getting up 10 minutes earlier just to do it.
Quote of the Week
“When we meditate every morning we are putting on armor for the day’s battle against our own impatience, inadequacy, resentment and hostility.” Eknath Easwaran
