From Rev. Arlene

I try not to watch the news because it can be pretty depressing but sometimes something is so big, it cannot be avoided.  The tragedy that happened in Orlando could have happened anywhere.  When we witness so much hate in the world, it can be hard to hold onto our belief that God is Love.

We have to remember that sometimes people do terrible things but this does not mean God does not exist or is not Love.  We humans are the only animals that have the gift of free will and it is this free will that causes some of us to do terrible things.

The answer is not hate nor prejudice because this just creates more hate. The more we hate others, the more hate we create in the world.  The more we try to love, even those that are unlovable, the more love we create in the world.

When we raise our consciousness we raise the consciousness of the entire planet.  We do this by believing that peace and love will prevail in the midst of the realities of our world today. This is the most important thing we can do in times like this.

Quote of the Week

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.
