Agape Love

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day.  This past Saturday I experienced Love in a different kind of way.  It was Love in Action also known as service.  The Greeks had many words to describe love – each depending on the type of Love it was.

My favorite of the words is Agape or love for everyone  Last Saturday I got to experience that kind of love in action.  It was the night of Unity’s Got Talent.  It wasn’t just a night of entertainment, although it certainly was that.  It was an example of Agape Love – the love of many for their spiritual community, giving of themselves and asking nothing in return.

While watching the show and knowing how many people donated so many hours, tears came to my eyes filled with gratitude for being a part of a community that is filled with Agape love.

I am truly blessed.

Are you blessed to be part of a community that is so filled with selfless service that just being in that community brings you waves of gratitude?  Even if you do not have a community, you can still be a vehicle of Agape by finding ways to be of service to others. One way is to ask yourself on a regular basis, in any situation, what would Love do?

If we ask that question and then act upon the answer, we will be examples to all of Agape or  God’s Love.  In doing that, we will be celebrating Love, not one day a year but every day of the year.

Quote of the Week

“When one has once fully entered the realm of love, the world — no matter how imperfect — becomes rich and beautiful, it consists solely of opportunities for love.”

Søren Kierkegaard, ‘Works Of Love’, 1847.
