A Prayer for Living

One of my favorite prayers is the Prayer of St. Francis, mostly because it is, in reality, a code of how to live our lives as best as we can.

The prayer reminds us that it is better to give than receive – better to give love than receive it, better to be understanding than to be understood, better to forgive than to be forgiven, etc.  In other words, it is better to give to others what it is we seek ourselves.

In my own life, I have found that when I treat others the way I want to be treated, I am not only a better person but my life is better as well.

That is why most mornings my prayer is simply, God let me treat others today as I wish to be treated tomorrow.  For me, that sums up the St Francis prayer perfectly.

Quote of the Week

“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.”

St Francis of Assisi
